More Than Enough

After spending entire the day healing the sick, when evening came, the disciples came to Jesus and said to Him, “this is a deserted place and the hour is already late. Send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.” But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

Jesus commanded that THEY feed the crowd. After looking at what they had, five loaves and two fish, they knew they didn’t have enough to feed 5,000 (a better estimation would’ve been between 15,000-20,000 people because this number didn’t include women and children). People often try to encourage others(or even themselves) by saying God would never give people something that is too much for them to handle. It is encouraging, but it’s not exactly true since it can leave the listeners focusing on their selves. As you can see, the task that Jesus gave to the disciples is contrary to that saying. This was FAR bigger than what they could do in their own strength.

God often gives people more than what they are capable of handling on their own so they can rely on Him. Sometimes we can think to ourselves, if I can’t do it or it doesn’t happen, then it must not be for me, but that’s the easy way out. Jesus told the disciples to “bring them to Me.” After watching Jesus heal the sick all day, the disciples quickly forgot that all that they needed was with them the entire time. Did you take it to God?

With Jesus, you have more than enough; You are more than capable. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do ALL things THROUGH Christ who strengthens me.” Not through you or your friends or your mom or dad, but through Christ. If you are struggling with something or in need of something and all roads seem to lead to a dead end, He asks is for you to bring it to Him (although this should be our first response instead of our last option). Also, the disciples didn’t pretend to have more than what they had, so neither should we. Bring Him what you have and He’ll supply all your needs. A better saying would be, God would never give someone something that HE can’t handle; which is nothing.
